In our previous articles, we have discussed the history and application of Fiber Optic. Optical fiber has penetrated into every aspect of our life, but do you know what classification there are? The article will talk about the classifcation of the Fiber Optic.

The communication using optical fiber cable can be a technique of transmitting data from one location to another by transmitting light pulses. The designing of these cables can be done with plastic or glass so that the data can be transmitted effectively and quickly than copper cables.

What Is Optical Fiber?

Fiber optics carry information from one point to another in the form of light, which is extremely thin strands of purified glass. Unlike copper wire, fiber optics does not use electricity during transmission. Optical fibers can be either glass or plastic tubing capable of transmitting light, which is then converted into sound, speech or information. Fiber optic cables transmit a digital signal via pulses of light through the very thin strands of glass.

But Optical fiber alone is not enough, optical fiber must be equipped with other accessories in order to provide more high-speed services. The optical fiber is connected by the fiber optic adapter through its internal open sleeve to ensure the highest connection performance between optical fiber. Common fiber adapters are SC adapter, LC adapter and SC to LC adapter.

Working of Optical Fiber

optical fiber works by the transmission of the information in the form of light atoms otherwise photons. The cores of the fiberglass & the cladding have a special refractive index to twist inward light at a particular angle. Whenever light gestures are transmitted through the optical cable, then they do not reflect the cladding & core within a sequence of zigzag bounces, sticking to a method is named as total internal reflection.

Classifation of Optical fiber

There are many types of optical fibers. According to the transmission mode, optical fiber is divided into Single Mode Fiber and Multi-Mode Fiber.

  1. 1.    Single Mode Fiber

Single mode fibers transmit a single data stream. The core of the glass fiber is much finer than in multi-mode fibers. So light travels parallel to the axis, creating little pulse dispersion. Data transmission modes are higher, and the distances that single mode fiber can cover can be over 50 times longer than multi-mode fibers. Telephone and cable television networks install millions of kilometers of this fiber every year.

  1. 2.    Multi-Mode Fiber

Multi-mode fibers allow different data streams to be sent simultaneously over a particular fiber. The glass fiber has a slightly larger diameter to allow light to be sent through the fiber at different angles.

Single cable consists of only one single fiber optic strand. The data can only be transmitted in one direction. The duplex cable is made up of two fiber optic strands that run side-by-side. One strand runs from transmit to receive and the other strand joins receive to transmit. This allows communication in both directions (bi-directional) between devices.

The appearance of optical fiber brings the distance between people closer, and it also gives birth to a large number of manufacturers of optical fiber accessories. If you want to know more about the supplier of optical fiber accessories, welcome to the official website of MELONTEL.
