What is the MPO Optical Fiber?

As the demand for bandwidth speed exceeds the ability of physical expansion, the network needs to have higher density and higher speed transmission solutions, which can improve data rate performance without having to invest in a new physical location. MPO optical fiber cables have a high-density termination function, which is ideal for providing the fastest link and supporting high-speed interconnection.

Multi-fiber push-in Optics (MPO) are multi-fiber cables terminated in a single fiber connector. They usually use 8, 12 or 24 optical fibers and are suitable for data centers and LAN environments. They simplify cable management and allow faster deployment in duplex 10 Gig fiber applications.

MPO fiber cables can be divided into three types: MPO fiber optic jumpers, MPO conversion cables and MPO branches. Each type has a variety of configurations, including standard, riser or LSZH jacket and OM3, OM4 or OM5 modes.

1. Jumpers

MPO cables are all high-speed and high-density cables. These cables are designed to run reliably and quickly in data centers. We can use one cable to replace 8, 12, or 24 single fiber optic patch cord. It can reduce space requirements and increase scalability, which saves a lot of space and costs. MTP/MPO fiber cables are usually used in 40GbE and 100GbE network environments.

2. Breakthrough

One side of the branch cable is an MPO fiber connector, and the other side is a standard LC&SC optical fiber connector. Usually, they are connected to switches, transceivers or cassettes.

3. Conversions Number

MPO conversion cables provide greater flexibility in high-density cable systems. They will greatly increase the capacity of existing 12 or 24 fiber optic networks and are a cost-effective solution for 40/100/120 gigabit connections. The installer can choose the appropriate cable according to the current needs and future network migration plans. The conversion cable has become an effective solution for converting the previously designed Base-12 backbone network to the popular Base-8 and Base-24 backbone network.

1) Base-24 / 3x8 Conversion Cable

The Base-8 conversion cable converts eight main fiber optic cables into twenty-four fiber optic MPO connectors. This allows the single MPO to be plugged into the transceiver. The cable also converts the Base-24 trunk cable into three Base-8 cables.

2) Base-24 / 2x12 Conversion Wiring Harness

It converts the existing Base-12 fiber to more modern Base-8 or Base-24 fiber.

3) Base-2x12 / 3x8 Conversion Wiring Harness

The Base-8 conversion cable converts eight fiber optic trunk cables into twenty-four fiber optic MPO connectors, which allows a single MPO to be plugged into the transceiver. The cable can convert the Base-24 trunk fiber cable into three Base-8 cables.

In addition to MPO optical fiber cables, there are many other types of fiber cables, which provide great help for our information transmission. With the development of optical fiber cables, the installation and maintenance of optical fibers have become more and more important.
