1、What is Insulation piercing connector?

A cable connection product known as an insulation piercing connector can be used in place of a branching box or T-connector box. Construction without cutting the main cable, branching in any cable position, no special handling of the wire or clamps, straightforward and quick operation. When compared to traditional wiring techniques, it does away with the need for insulation layer removal, tinning and crimping terminals, insulation wrapping, and other procedures. It also reduces environmental pollution, which is difficult to avoid with traditional methods, and it costs less to install and labor.

2、Composition of Insulation piercing connector

Insulation piercing connector is mainly composed of enhanced shell, piercing blade, gasket, waterproof silicone grease, high-strength bolts, torque nuts and cable terminal cap set.


A screw connected by torque screws holds up an insulation piercing connector that is supported by two insulated shell parts are separated from the top and bottom. Insulation support shell concealed two (or more) using a special alloy material made of metal conductors can be cross-contact with the wire, the conductor is called puncture blade.


The contact blades are made of a special highly conductive material, which guarantees an optimal contact surface on the conductor and is suitable for copper-aluminum transitions. The shell is made of reinforced engineering plastic, which can not only maintain elasticity at room temperature, but also maintain elasticity and extremely high strength at high temperatures. The waterproof seal is made of high quality rubber and silicone. The shell and seal can resist ultraviolet rays, moisture and temperature changes and erosion.


3、 Insulation piercing connector working principle

When the branch wire and the main wire are stuck into the piercing connector, start to tighten the torque nut (the following figure). As the torque nut is gradually tightened, the two insulating shells on the top and bottom of the piercing clip gradually come together, and the sealant ring wrapped around the blade begins to gradually adhere to the insulating skin layer of the cable, while the teeth of the piercing blade also begin to pierce the insulating skin layer of the cable and gradually pierce the metal conductor.


When the sealant ring and cable insulation skin, piercing blade and metal conductor contact depth reaches the design value, the torque nut off, then the branch line and the main line to connect, so as to achieve the electrical connection.


The piercing connector has a torque nut and a piercing structure. The torque nut is used to ensure a constant contact pressure and good electrical contact, and together with the piercing structure makes the installation easy and reliable.



After testing, the contact resistance and line insulation resistance meet the requirements of the construction specifications, and the temperature rise of the T-joint part is lower than that of the same diameter cable when it is energized for trial operation under load. The use of puncture wire clamps for the mechanical and electrical properties of the cable trunk line impact is so small that it can be negligible.


4、Insulation piercing connector advantage

Insulation piercing clamps have a special metal torque device, will not fall off as a whole, to ensure that the installation success rate of 100%; puncture pressure is constant, to ensure that both a reliable depth of puncture, without damaging the cable core.


1) Puncture structure, any branch, simple installation, construction quality is not affected by the technical level of the construction personnel, that is, to ensure a reliable connection. No need to strip the cable core insulation layer, can operate with electricity, eliminating maintenance;

2) Torque nut, puncture pressure constant, to ensure a good electrical connection without damage to the wire;

3) Self-sealing structure, moisture-proof, waterproof, to ensure that the cable itself does not affect the insulation properties;

4) Special copper alloy high conductivity arc surface design contact blade, with a certain degree of hardness and flexibility, both with a good puncture effect, but also a good electrical connection, to ensure that in the case of high-current transport. The wire clip's temperature rise is is less than the temperature rise of the connected wire, and stable thermal cycling performance, will not lead to heat caused by fire;

5) Small electrical contact resistance, inrush current up to 15KA;

6) High insulation shell, resistance to light, environmental aging, corrosion resistance, tensile, twist resistance, flame retardant, fireproof, shockproof, its service life and cable with the same life.


5、 Installation of Insulation piercing connector

When using the cable piercing connector construction, first determine the location of the branch line on the main line cable, and in the determined part stripped 200 ~ 500mm outer sheath, the main line cable core bifurcation, without stripping the cable core inner sheath (insulation layer), the branch line directly into the branch line cap with waterproof function (without stripping the insulation layer), and then the wire clip fixed in the main line cable branch core, at the connection Tighten the wire clamp nut by hand, and finally fix the wire clamp with a sleeve plate glove by tightening the torque nut on the wire clamp clockwise.


When the puncture blade and metal conductor contact to achieve the best effect torque nut will automatically break off, no need to do special treatment of the wire and clamps (the following figure).



6、Insulation piercing connector Precautions

1) Before installation, the preparatory work should be done, the surface of the wire clip clean, check the surface is uneven, damaged should not be used.


2) Check whether the type of insulated piercing connector is suitable for the cable, distinguish between the main line and the branch line different line slot.


3) As much as possible, tighten the two bolts simultaneously while tightening the nuts. Continue tightening the nuts until the torque nut breaks off; do not tighten the compression nut again; and insert the line clip horizontally.


4) Insulation piercing connector shall not be used for the connection of bare wire, bare wire and insulated wire shall not be used with insulation piercing connector, insulation piercing connector shall not be contaminated by sludge and other pollution, shall not be knocked and pressed.
