According to fiber properties, fiber transceivers can be divided into multi-mode fiber transceivers and single-mode fiber transceivers.

Due to the different optical fibers used, the transceiver can transmit different distances. Multi-mode fiber can only cover a distance of 2 km to 5 km due to the short transmission distance. Therefore, the data transmission distance supported by the multi-mode fiber transceiver is also relatively short, which can only be realized in the range of 2 km to 5 km.

Small and medium enterprise networks are generally dense and not as scattered as large enterprises, so the coverage required for fiber transceivers does not need to be very large. And this is the characteristics of multi-mode fiber transceiver, and most small and medium-sized enterprises still use 100 mbit/s network, therefore, we only need to choose 100 MBIT/s multi-mode fiber transceiver to meet the needs of users.

Single - fiber transceiver refers to the use of single - mode optical cable. Single-fiber transceivers use only one core, connected to both ends of the core, and the transceivers at each end use different wavelengths of light. So you can transmit optical signals in one core and a dual-fiber transceiver uses two cores. One for sending and one for receiving, one for sending and the other for receiving must be inserted in the mouth, that is, the two ends must be crossed.

Single fiber transceiver

Single-fiber transceiver should realize both transmitting and receiving functions. It uses WDM technology to transmit and receive optical signals of two different wavelengths in a single optical fiber.

So the single-mode single-fiber transceiver is transmitted through a core fiber, so the transmitting and receiving light is transmitted through a core fiber at the same time. In this case, two wavelengths of light must be used to distinguish between them in order to communicate properly.


Therefore, the optical module of a single-mode single-fiber transceiver emits two wavelengths, which are generally 1310nm/1550nm. In this way, there will be differences between the two ends of the interconnection of a pair of transceivers:



One end transceiver transmits 1310nm and receives 1550nm.


And at the other end, transmitting at 1,550 nm, receiving at 1,310 nm,


So convenient for users to distinguish, generally will use letters to replace.


The A end (1310nm/1550nm) and the B end (1550nm/1310nm) appear. with


The user must be connected to AB and cannot be connected to AA or BB.


The AB terminal is used only by the single-fiber fiber transceiver.



Multimode fiber optic transceiver

Dual fiber transceiver has TX port (transmitter port) and RX port (receiver port), both of which emit the same wavelength of 1310nm and receive the same wavelength of 1310nm. Therefore, two parallel optical fibers are used for cross connection when wiring.
