In the environment of integrated network cabling, in order to meet the needs of high-performance cabling, optical fibers often appear bare fibers, coil fibers, and fiber fusion splicing. Since optical fibers are relatively fragile and prone to failures relative to copper wires, optical fiber inspection tools have become comprehensive A commonly used tool in network cabling, the visual fault locator is one of the commonly used optical fiber inspection tools for troubleshooting network faults. It can quickly detect fiber connectivity and fiber failure points. Do you really know the visual fault locator? In addition to detecting optical fiber fault points, what other uses does the visual fault locator have? How is the visual fault locator used?
The visual fault locator uses a 650nm (±20nm) semiconductor laser as a light-emitting device, and is driven by a constant current source to emit a stable red light, which is connected to the optical interface to enter the optical fiber to realize the optical fiber The fault detection function includes the detection of fiber connectivity and the location of fault points such as fiber breaks and bends. In addition, it also has the functions of fault detection in the OTDR blind zone, end-to-end fiber identification, and optimization of mechanical splice points. It can be used in telecommunications/CATV engineering and maintenance, integrated wiring construction and maintenance, optical device production and research, and other optical fiber projects.
It can be seen from the above that the visual fault locator has many uses, but its most common usage is still to detect the connectivity of the optical fiber and locate the fault point of the optical fiber, then how to use the visual fault locator? The visual fault locator is divided into two working modes: a constant light mode, which can stably show the connectivity of the fiber jumper through continuous light; the other blinking mode, which quickly finds the fiber fault point through flashing light. The specific usage is as follows:
1. Install the battery and check if the visual fault locator is in good condition
Unscrew the pen tip and pen body of the visual fault locator, install the battery in the pen body of the visual fault locator (pay attention to the positive and negative poles of the battery), tighten the pen tip and pen body after the battery is installed, and open the dustproof of the visual fault locator Cap and control switch, observe whether the visual fault locator has a red light, if there is a red light, it means that the visual fault locator is installed correctly and can be used;
2. Choose the appropriate connector according to the type of fiber jumper
Select the appropriate connector according to the type of fiber jumper (that is, the interface type of the fiber jumper), such as LC fiber jumper, choose the LC connector to install on the interface of the visual fault locator, and then insert the fiber jumper into the connector of the visual fault locator Up (please clean the interface with a cleaning tool before inserting the optical fiber jumper);
3. Turn on the visual fault locator working mode to detect the fiber jumper
First select the constant light mode of the visual fault locator (push up), and check whether the fiber jumper is connected and intact by continuous light. If there is no red light leakage in the fiber jumper, it means that the fiber jumper is intact. If it is in the fiber jumper If there is a red light leakage somewhere, turn on the flashing mode of the visual fault locator (push down), and quickly find the fault point of the fiber jumper through the flashing light. If the fiber jumper is damaged due to excessive bending of the fiber, replace the fiber jumper. If the failure point of the fiber jumper is the fiber fusion splice, then there may be bubbles in the splice, and the fiber needs to be spliced again.
