What should we do if fibers are accidentally broken when operating ? This is a common thing in the daily operation of the weak electricity project.


If the fiber is broken, to connect the two fiber optic lines together, that requires a fiber optic hot fusion machine, because the fiber is made of quartz, can not be like a wire directly to tie a knot, this time it must be used thousands of dollars to tens of thousands of dollars of professional equipment for hot splicing, but not all of our friends around the fiber optic fusion splicing machine.


First, the fiber optic cold splicing method


Then there is no other way? Then you can only use the cold splicing method!


Fiber optics are generally three wires together, but the real fiber optic is sandwiched in the middle of the one on both sides of the main role is to protect the middle of the fiber optic, because the optical fiber is very brittle, it is easy to break, so it is necessary to arrange for it to "bodyguard" for protection.


Sometimes, there may be two or three optical fibers in the middle, then we only need to use the blue one, and the other extra break it on the line.


Second, the steps of fiber optic cold splicing


Now the fiber to the home with the skin cable, the end with a cold splice. The so-called cold splicing, that is, the fiber is stripped and cut, aligned with the cold splice, fixed. Cold splices are more convenient, do not need to bring a fusion splicer.


Fiber to the home cold splicing mainly includes five major steps: stripping, cleaning, cutting, cold splicing and testing.


1、Stripping


Unscrew the tail pipe of the cold splice, and then put the fiber into the tail pipe.


Strip off the PVC layer with a stripper and cut off the reinforcement at the same time.


Then use the smallest aperture of fiber optic stripping pliers to remove the coating layer



2、Cleaning


Clean the bare fiber with a non-woven cloth dipped in anhydrous alcohol.



3、Cutting


Put the fiber optic fixture together with the fiber, and cut it on the fixture holder of the fiber optic cutter.


4、Cold splice


Thread the optical fiber into the cold splice body


5、Testing


Use the fiber optic test pen to test the conduction state



6, fiber optic cold splice seems simple, but also a technical job, the installation process also has a lot of precautions:


A, in the connector throughout the installation process, each link to ensure cleanliness


B. Ensure the quality of the cut end face of the optical fiber on site


C, the site of the fiber and the pre-buried fiber end face of the close fit is the key to successful end connections


D, the length of the optical fiber cut on site should be accurate, the length of the optical fiber on site is not enough, and the factory pre-ground short optical fiber contact, will lead to the existence of a gap between the end faces, increasing the termination loss.


E, the length of the optical fiber cut on site should be accurate, wear fiber in place, fiber reasonable bending, to provide two end face tight force, to ensure that the end face contact, while avoiding fiber length, resulting in excessive pressure on the end face, resulting in damage to the fiber optic end face.



Third, the difference between cold splicing and hot fusion of optical fiber


First, hot fusion


Need to use fiber optic fusion splicing machine, fiber optic cutter, the two optical fibers up, no other auxiliary materials. Advantages are stable quality, splicing loss is small (about 0.05 to 0.08db), the disadvantage is that the cost of equipment is too high, the equipment's power storage capacity is limited, field operation love restrictions. In short, good quality fusion splicing, low attenuation, but the operation is troublesome, the need for fusion splicing machine.


Second, cold splicing


Do not need too much equipment, fiber optic cutter can be, but each splice requires a quick connector, the advantage is easy to operate, suitable for field operations, the disadvantage of the loss of large, "about 0.2 to 0.5dB per point cold splice", in business and technical services are not available to choose from can choose to use, followed by the use of cold splices in the matching Liquid, due to the use of less, short time, aging problems need the test of time.


In conclusion:


1, the cost of a single cold joint is much higher than hot melt.


2, cold splice tools are more convenient to carry, hot melt needs to carry a hot melt machine. Very inconvenient.


3, after the hot melt fiber loss is low, cold splicing fiber optic connectors are relatively large losses
