How to Choose a Fiber Optic Adapter?

The fiber optic adapter is the centering connection part of the fiber optic connector. It can precisely connect the two end surface of the optical fiber, so that the light energy output by the transmitting optical fiber can be coupled to the receiving optical fiber, and the same or different optical fiber movable connectors can be connected, making the light path unblocked with little loss.

With the wide application of telephone fiber adapters in fiber optic connections, there are various fiber optic adapters with different interfaces, which can meet the installation requirements of different environments. Common types of adapters are: modern LC adapter, FC adapter, SFP SC adapter, ST adapter, dual E2000 adapter, MTP / MPO adapter, SC to LC adapter, etc.

Since there are so many types of adapters, how to choose a suitable and high-quality bare fibre adapter? Generally speaking, when choosing fiber optic adapters, the following details should be considered.

 15-3-modern LC adapter

1. The Flame Retardant Grade of the Adapter

The flammability UL94 is the most widely used flammability standard for plastic materials. It is used to evaluate the extinguishing ability of the material after being ignited. According to the burning speed, burning time and anti-drip ability, there are many ways to judge the extinguishing ability. HB, V0, V1, V2 are different flame retardant grades, because their grades are different, the flame resistance test method is also different, and the test judgment standard is also different. The flame retardant grades are gradually increased from HB, V-2, V-1 to V-0.

2. Insertion Loss

The insertion loss is generally required to be less than 0.2dB. If the insertion loss is too high, it will affect the optical transmission.

3. Durability

The fibre optic cable adapter needs to be plugged and unplugged frequently during use, so the durability of the adapter should be high. The normal standard requires that the number of plugging and unplugging can reach more than 500 times without affecting the performance.

4. Working Temperature

-40℃~75℃ is a normal working temperature range of the FC to ST adapter.

5. The Material of the Fiber Optic Adapter Alignment Sleeve

The alignment sleeve is the most important part of the optical fiber adapter. Generally, metal or ceramic materials are used. The optical fiber adapter made of ceramic will have a relatively good effect. Because the crystal structure of the ceramic is hard and it is not easy to deform, it can achieve rapid alignment and high precision fiber end-to-face connection.

When choosing a fiber optic adapter, you can select relatively high-quality and stable fiber optic adapters through the above important factors. Of course, you also need to consider other factors that affect quality, such as tensile strength and compliance standards. Fiber optic adapters are widely used in communication room, FTTH fiber to the home, local area network, fiber optic communication system, fiber optic connection transmission equipment, national defense combat readiness, etc. Although the optical fiber adapter is small, its quality directly affects the entire optical fiber link. Therefore, the selection of the fiber optic adapter should be rigorous and comprehensive.
